Sidney the Kidney in Dallas! Dallas is the third-largest city in Texas and the ninth-largest in the United States. Dallas has a humid subtropical climate, bringing temperatures well over 100 °F at times and heat-humidity indexes soaring to as high as 117 °F. When only temperature itself is accounted for, the north central Texas region where Dallas is located is one of the hottest in the United States during the summer months. Dallas is known for its barbecue, authentic Mexican, and Tex-Mex cuisine. Famous products of the Dallas culinary scene include the frozen margarita and the chain restaurants Chili's and Romano's Macaroni Grill.

Sidney is excited to be in such a large and fun city. He plans to do as much walking as he can now that it’s spring and the heat as yet to soar in Dallas. His first stop is the Irving Arts Center where he can enjoy cooler temperatures inside. Sidney took a walking tour through all four galleries that range from intimate to grand, and ended his visit in the beautiful sculpture garden.

Next stop Greenville Avenue where he enjoyed free live music and spent some time taking in the sights and people watching. He also did a little window shopping there were so many unique items to check out. Then off to lunch at the Dallas Farmers Market where he sampled mouth-watering fresh fruit and vegetables local to the area. He then settled on a Mexican Fiesta Salad filled w/ lean ground turkey, fresh beans, corn, lettuce & tomato. The perfect open-air market made it easy to take a leisurely stroll and take in all the colorful sights.

The next day Sidney had a healthy breakfast of oatmeal and fresh fruit topped with yogurt and granola then headed out to a complimentary yoga session at North Park. Sidney is a beginner at yoga so he took it easy and watched the instructor carefully. He really enjoyed the relaxing breathing exercises and deep stretches especially after a long day of walking yesterday.

Before ending his journey in Dallas he visits the Dallas Children’s Medical Center. He brought along a few gifts for the children waiting for Kidney Transplants.  He made it just in time to join in on their Music Therapy Session. As patients in the hospital, children often experience fear and anxiety. Music therapy addresses these and other needs by providing opportunities for patients to make independent choices and express themselves.

Sidney loved Dallas and reminds everyone when traveling this summer to walk as much as you can. Take in the sights, get fresh air and move your muscles!
