Sidney the Kidney is in the capital of Wisconsin, Madison also known as the “City of Four Lakes”. The Wisconsin State Capitol dome, closely based on the dome of the U.S. Capitol, is the landmark of the Madison skyline. Madison is also known for hosting the 2010 Transplant Games where more than 7,000 people from across the country participated!

Sidney wants to give an important message to his friends with Kidney Disease in Wisconsin. Since the recent floods, which may have caused some patients to have evacuated, please make sure you are   accessing services and not missing treatments.  Also, please make sure you have an emergency backup plan in place to ensure your safety and quality of health.  Lastly, the Red Cross has opened multiple shelters if you need to seek refuge and medical care.

In 2004 Sports Illustrated on Campus named Madison the #1 college sports town in the nation. Madison's reputation as a sports city exists largely because of the presence of the University of Wisconsin. Many major streets in Madison have designated bike lanes and the city has one of the most extensive bike trail systems in the nation.

Sidney’s first stop is the University of Wisconsin where he talked to college students about the importance of prevention. He made sure his new friends understood if their parents have a history of diabetes and or high blood pressure they should get their kidney’s checked. Sidney had a salad for lunch in the UW café. He needs fuel to keep on trekking.

Now onto the famous Madison bike trails. Sidney didn’t pack his bike so he rented one. The people here are so friendly and helpful. 3-mile bike trail down, now off to see more sites! Sidney needs a rest, so he hops on Betty Lou Cruises for a spectacular water view of Madison’s fall foliage as it just begins. Sidney’s tour guide showed them the State Capitol, the Madison skyline & lakefront estates. It was spectacular! Sidney’s heading to bed, big day tomorrow.

Sidney is refreshed and ready to go. First stop Wisconsin Dialysis Inc., Madison Campus where they offer expert care to patients with kidney disease in a patient and family focused environment. There he passes out literature on healthy eating habits, maintaining your blood pressure & how to treat your diabetes all from his friends at the National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York. Friends he made share their lunch with him. Then he heads to his final stop in Madison.

Sidney is at the American Family Children’s Hospital of Madison, Wi. He takes the elevator up to the Diabetes & Endocrinology Floor where he visits with children waiting for treatment. He spends the day playing board games, passing out balloons and giving advice on how to manage diabetes and kidney disease. What a day! What a great time Sidney had in Madison. Now off to the next stop! See you there!
